Hygienic design for chemicals, pharmaceuticals and food technology
Deburring and polishing for perfect surfaces
Tubes, pipes, housings and distributors in the chemicals, pharmaceuticals and food industries require microscopically smooth surfaces to ensure they are suitable for cleaning (hygienic design). In particular, joints with welded seams and connecting elements such as distributors, housings and connections require a perfect finish with surfaces smoothed and polished to RA≤0.38 µm to achieve hygienic design standards. The stresses involved in the bending process mean that bent tubes have insufficient surface quality levels, which can be remedied through abrasive flow machining. As a result, bent tubes can also now be used as assemblies in hygienic design.
Unlike conventional deburring methods, abrasive flow machining delivers microscopically perfect surfaces even in hard-to-reach areas such as joints, welded seams and internal channels.
Deburring with abrasive flow machining is particularly suitable for:
- Tubes and bent tubes
- Pipes
- Welded connections
- Housings
- Valves
- Distributors
Example: Polishing an internal surface
